This beautiful oak bark leather is from J & F J Baker who are the last remaining oak bark tannery in the UK. J & F J Baker.

Have been Oak Bark tanning since 1862 at the tannery in Colyton, Devon which has been used as a tannery since Roman times. Produce beautiful, hardwearing and extremely strong leather which is ideal for belts, straps, shoes and equine products. This oak bark leather is produced from free-range beef cattle raised in Devon and tanned using sustainably harvested British oak bark. The tanning process takes 12 months and is labour intensive but results in hides that are exceptionally strong and that preserve the natural beauty of each hide. This leather is prized by many leather craftsmen because of its natural tanning process, strength and strong substance.

This leather is ideal for making beautiful belts or bag straps because of its great strength and natural characteristics which allows the leather to''age'' giving it a lovely patina over time. These straps have a resin coating to the suede side to give the back a lovely smooth texture.

The length varies from hide to hide but will be approximately 140 - 155 cm long. Available in Dark Stain, a rich warm brown colour. This leather has not been dyed through so it is just the surface that has been coloured.
